Here are some reflections on the recent European Archaeology Consilium. It was a fantastic conference, and it was great to meet a number of people in the flesh for the first time!

I love coming to #York for work, and find the heritage all around you very inspiring. Today I had literally 5 mins free and went to see the amazing C12th Norman House just tucked away off of Stonegate.

I had a great site visit to the York Archaeology Fishergate site on Friday. It really got me thinking again about the early medieval trading sites and how they started, developed and ended.

Lots of potential for new interpretative insight with publications coming out in the next few years

I just heard the sad news that Helen Clarke has died. Her book with Bjorn Ambrosiani on Viking Age Towns was definitely one of the key ones that got me into early medieval archaeology and urban origins. I loved the spirit of pan European collaboration in the whole thing.
