One of my guilty pleasures is reading comments in the ChubbyFIRE subreddit. This is a lifestyle I will never understand, even if I eventually have $10m.

This post is titled “At what NW would you feel comfortable buying a $3m house?”

Can’t even call a normal plumber if something goes wrong.

Interesting that the goal should be presented first and the context last.

I’ve typically provided context first and then winged it with everything else.

People really don’t want to hear this and want to pretend like LLMs are a temporary fad or something.

Even with identical education, someone using AI will outcompete someone not.

I use them all the time to navigate bureaucracy, write code, and at this moment am planning a vacation with Claude.
If you have zero education, but learn how to ask AI models the right questions , in many jobs you will be able to outperform someone with an advanced degree, but who is unwilling to use Large Language Models.

Just takes a smartphone, curiosity to experiment and a mindset to learn.

Measles high infection rate is the reason we have not yet been able to eradicate it. That rate means you need a very high vaccination rate to prevent outbreaks. It is possible, but not with current levels of institutional distrust.
The average person with the flu gives it to around 1.4 people. The average person with measles gives it to between 12 and 18 people.

Measles cases continue to surge globally, putting millions of children at risk.

More than 10 million people globally were infected with measles in 2023, a 20% increase from the previous year.

My son visited Disney this year with his grandparents. They had a great time but lamented this would be the only trip they take there. My wife and I refuse, as the all-in cost of a week is equivalent to a month-long trip to Europe.

Biggest problem I have with direct reports during review time is that they are often too self-critical. I have to fight with people to give themselves appropriate recognition.

Today we built a firewood rack and gathered wood. I don’t want to split wood in negative Fahrenheit temperatures if I can help it.

If you’re selling to B2B, you need to be thinking at the team level.

PLG works for user acquisition but quickly unravels for anything more than small orgs.

Once you have that user acquired, you must track and nurture at the team level. Many companies only do this for Ent, which is a mistake.

Roblox made $2.23 billion in 2023 but also reported a loss of $1.15 billion.

$1.43 billion of their spending was toward R&D. Thats 37% of their total budget. They pay some of the highest engineer salaries in the industry.

Something that I notice about founders who experience some success (big exit/etc) is a “game recognize game” aspect of their social interactions.

They’re naturally inclined toward building things, and often have more in common with ICs than professional managers. Less schmoozing, more hanging out.

Where I live in NY, we almost never see the kind of snow like Buffalo or North Country.

So this morning I went powder hunting. It was totally worth it. From zero snow to legit backcountry skiing in 40 min.
