The dissonance lies between current, operational data centers and the projections of the AI hype squad. The vast vast majority of the benefits, consequences, and even expenditures of the AI buildout currently exist only in investor presentations to pump asset valuations. Most will never be built.

People making business names possessive (Kroger's???) is one of my biggest pet peeves, but for some reason I have a loophole for Shipley's. It just sounds like a guy's donut shop.

There was a time when it was the best chicken sandwich by a mile, but the competition has caught up and CFA hasn't changed. Their only advantages now are the CFA sauce (which is just a very good shelf-stable creamy honey mustard) and their efficiency, which only really matters in a drive-thru.

At first blush seems obviously impossible, since what union would ever agree to that, but I think it could be worth cities offering a lot in exchange on the salary side (and given costs of settlements they could offer a ton and still save money), and make the case to the public to create pressure.

Oh personally liable? Yeah that's a terrible idea. The only version of this I've heard that would possibly be workable is somehow negotiating the unions into agreeing to pay settlements/judgements out of their own funds. Would make payments recoverable and actually change incentives.

I've recently come around to this realization, but I think that a lot of that villainy can be neutralized by a competent universal federal insurer interested in controlling costs. That is, yes hospitals are part of the problem, but I don't think the feds need to take over hospitals to fix it.
