Also: you are competing for these people with actual tech industry jobs that pay 5x an academic salary so I really don’t see these hires working out on this scale, like, at all.

So many institutions are tripping over each other to hire as many AI experts as quickly as possible, and I just cackle at the thought of all the tenure letters required to make this possible- anyone with any seniority in this field must be soooo tired by now. And good luck hiring 20, let alone 100.
