Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield is one that I come back to every few years. It’s a retelling of the 300 Spartans from the perspective of one of their shield bearers. Not sure if it counts as “history,” but it’s historical fiction and definitely a page turner!

What do you think of Rhamondre Stevenson’s outlook for the rest of the season? Lots of folks expected him to lose the lead back role to Henderson, but that hasn’t happened. Still, he doesn’t inspire confidence and has been dealing with injury. What should we expect from him going forward?

(On the following play, the same forward takes the ensuing corner kick. He bends it beautifully around me, untouched and directly into my side-netting for a goal, making my greatest sports moment ever all but irrelevant. Sports are brutal.)

Intramural soccer game playing as a goalkeeper. One of my best defenders commits a foul in the box. Penalty kick. Opposing forward steps up to kick. He blasts a kick at my bottom right corner, but I guessed correctly and my full extension lets me push the screamer past the post. My best ever save!

I’m not talented enough as a singer to do songs that require tons of vocal talent, but with Kiss at karaoke, you can get away with it by going over the top: Bust out some sweet moves after “I think I wanna dance!” Ramp up the volume for the final chorus. End with a power slide!

I had championship hopes from the 1st Harden-Howard season through the 2nd Harden-CP3 season. But years of tanking wrung the playoff hopes from me, replacing it with draft / development hope. Now? I want to see a healthy Rockets squad put their defensive clamps on some teams deep into the playoffs!
