…as a matter of practice within our research teams. What barriers may exist at the multiples of study design, recruitment, etc that limit representation? Is it a value to improve this, or is the perceived problem more to do with being clear about research findings and how to interpret?

I think the ethical and just approach is for us to be accountable for the multiple ways people aren’t represented in our work. For example, a statement in the method section that describes the issue and approach taken (as you described here) and a reflection, either in the discussion or…

I’m looking at the methods and still not sure they differentiate well between empathy and labor…

Is it empathy that’s hard… or persistent unpaid labor…?

These are so good! Thank you for sharing! Here are a few of mine: 1) knowing what I value + making choices that align 2) less stuff=less to organize 3) only owning clothes that I actually ENJOY putting on 4) using AI to give me a few takes on an idea or paragraph for inspo when I have writers block.

I am now exploring constructs in my research that may be less sensitive to risk, or that may be more equitable as target outcomes in the first place. Childhood is magic…not just a dark period of vulnerability.

We KNOW development is non-linear. The framing of perceived linear risk (yes I’m pushing back on ACE’s) and its impact on linear development (higher vs lower emotional suppression) is inherently flawed.

…scientific knowledge is largely centered on reduction (of potential risk and problems) and less on elevation (of truly optimal processes and pathways for children’s development). It also creates a lens that children with certain risk factors can’t simultaneously elevate strengths and flourish.

However, I began to see that describing development only in terms of risk factors often has the opposite effect of what I was intending to do with my work. It can mean that our work segregates the very understanding of emotional health and optimal development into a sphere of risk such that…

Fascinating stuff, thanks for taking the time to break it down here. I see so many people clinically who are trying understand the cyclical nature of their mental health-related symptoms and we are lacking the tools to support, empower, and treat!

I think it is too. I celebrate your joy!

Great idea! I study parenting and family relationships, please add me!
December 4, 2024 at 2:51 AM
Please add me! I study emotional development in early childhood… I’d also love to create a child-focused starter pack. Is anyone here child-focused?
December 4, 2024 at 2:47 AM
This is great! I study the emotional development of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. I’m hoping to create a starter pack of folx who study emotional development in childhood. Would anyone on here asking to be added to a pack like to be added to a child-focused one? Please “like” or comment!

Is it me and you? 😉

Thanks for reposting! Maybe we are a small crew? Or haven’t migrated over yet? I’m working on it!

Wow this is cool! Thank you for managing. I’d love to add one for Emotions but I’m not sure where to begin! Very new to Bluesky

Does the child’s viewpoint that others can only see what they see reflect a developmental egocentrism truly, or does all learning at all ages go like this, but as adults we are only noticing specific kinds of learning that we have already gained differential perspectives on through experience?
