Cool work coming out of @thechunglab.bsky.social w/a very relatable origin story <3

“I started thinking about how, even in our lab, everything is single-use plastic because everything has to be sterile. Nothing can be contaminated. It all just started to feel very overwhelming for me personally,”
Could a mineral found in seashells be an alternative to plastics and protect marine life? Read about this new #innovation from the @thechunglab.bsky.social

I used to show my students Dr. Richbourg’s Hydrogel Design website all the time. It is devastating to hear about these postdoctoral funding cancellations, and all the other programs impacting trainees. We have so much talent in the US that we just need to support
My funding through the IRACDA program was canceled today. All IRACDA postdoctoral training funding is ending. I have to find a new funding source or a new job this summer. The defunding of American science happening now is absurd and unprecedented.

Lab Question:

We’re getting a lot of non-specific staining with an HRP-conjugated Anti-His Antibody from Thermo in our Westerns. Anybody have a positive experience with one from a different supplier?

SWE was founded in 1950, SHPE in 1974, and NSBE 1975. Don’t let anyone tell you that the lash out against DEI is only coming for new programs implemented in the recent years. As engineers we work so hard to build a world for everyone, so let’s prevent people from destroying what we’ve built.

There's a lot of organizations declaring "we're doing this based on legal advice about EOs" going around. As an administrator I always knew that advice is not a mandate. It takes a leader's directive to convert advice to action. Leaders need to be prepared to own that directive AND its consequences.

The government censoring scientists is horrific.

But what is even more horrific is that many non-government scientists and institutions are self-censoring themselves because they are scared of the government and losing funding.

Authoritarianism wins when we comply in advance!

If you’ve been directly impacted by a pause or cancellation of an NIH study session, we @forbes.com would like to talk to you
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

While we are at it, I am also trying to put together an Immunoengineering Starter Pack, but we don't have enough folks yet to create it. If you're an engineer working on immune-related topics, reach out to me and let me know so we can all find one another.
