don't know what that says about my abilities as an academic but I do think my writing is a lot better when I'm expressing righteous anger

For the last week or so, I have been burned out and repeating “we survive until new year and then we will see”.

My person’s response?

Judith Butler is 100% correct. The word "woke" is pure reactionary bullshit. Its contemporary meaning also distorts history by making it seem as if every positive cultural change of the past 200 years has happened naturally, without agitation by people considered, at the time, dangerously "woke."

The prompt to like 10 posts to teach bluesky’s recsys “what I like” is giving me serious performance anxiety.

How do I make a set of right choices that will bring me a perfect stream of edgy memes in the intersection of politics, F1, AI ethics, and performative millennial girlhood (all at once)?

I hope I am not late to the party (was away post-quals chilling) but here are some thoughts on why this is bad IMO:

First, a disclaimer that I am writing this as an African who is a speaker of multiple African languages, NLP researcher of African languages, and HCI researcher focusing broadly on..
this is a green flag for openai & meta to formally be arbitrators of our languages & mass exploit the population (& researcher that've poured their souls into low resource languages),all to throw unreliable AI that has so far proven to result in more harm than benefit

One of the weirder scholarly practices regarding generative AI that seems to have been normalized is citing chatbots.

I say normalized because many univs & scholarly associations recommend it as an element of proper scholarship.

But it doesn't make sense when you consider what a citation means. 1/
