On one night, across the province of Quebec, a dish will be made bearing one name in countless variations that express the character and culture of a region...The gastronomic diversity is a sign of a vibrant culture.

Guillermo del Toro is a master of colour, light, drama, homo- and heteroeroticism. He has a singular vision. This is brilliant.

I like the avatars on Meta of men pointing guns, positioned to fire, that turn up randomly on my feed and are the first to like a post (my criticism of Apple). Is it a threat? Bought and paid for?

This is the third year I've been a judge for the Irish Food Writing Awards. It is always an honour. I have admiration for the depth of talent and Sue Campbell is a masterful organizer. Congratulations to Alex O'Neill.

Rose Levy Berenbaum baptizes Rothkopf in the forward as, “A bright new voice in baking.” Why is that blurb not emblazoned on the front cover?

My friend Ghaithaa always sends me home with a package of ground lamb which is a real treat for me. Today I turned it into a ragu with fennel seed and it is divine.

Gooey-Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookies was my gateway into Marissa Rothkopf’s The Secret Lives of Chocolate Chip Cookies. The recipe is in the Soft and Lush section which best describes the qualities I adore. @marissarothkopf.bsky.social

The books I love don’t have cooks on their cover. I also don’t need to see a food photo...I prefer a non-literal cover. Cooking engages my imagination, and I like to enter the kitchen that way.

The aroma from the toasted herb crumb garnish is enticing on the vegetable stew. The beans were cooked in the slow cooker with aromatics, crushed some of the potatoes to a rubble, and added sauteed kale and garlic. It would be delicious with an egg on top. Haute brunch.

I wanted Kin as soon as I saw it for no other reason than the artful cover that looks like a coloured construction paper rendering of a bird, head curled down to catch a golden egg. The image is iconic — an endless circle.
