A schema for what purpose? What you use it for will determine how effective it is.

I think it draws a distinction between "culture" and "technology" that will often be disadvantageous. There's things that are useful to think of as technologies—gender, language—that this would call culture instead.

Maybe it isn't really about the cat... They weren't concerned and weren't planning on taking any action. But if you saw the need to take action, maybe they should have too? Maybe reassuring you that nothing needs to be done is really about reassuring themselves that they were right to not bother
