Multi-disciplinary Game Designer looking to create things that inspire. Currently working on a physical card game and a unique Shmup
Got around to doing some further visual improvements and put together a little trailer for a playtest session. The game is still a little confusing to play for most, but the major annoyances have been ironed out.
So now its back to do polish, polish and more polish.

Managed to wrap up the tutorial for the game. All that one-off functionality can be a pain to implement, but having the game explain itself makes the whole experience so much smoother.

Spent the past week bunkered down, grinding for the GMTK game jam. It wasn't easy and building for web didn't quite pan out, but I'm quite proud of the resuly. If you have some time please do check out SerpenTime!

Got stuck on some nasty bugs for a while, but stage 1 and 2 of the boss have been functionally implemented. Though I really need to get to implementing some proper feedback for hits and the like.

Anyone happen to know a good Godot asset for feedback? (Like MMs "Feel" for Unity)

Been a while, but finally managed to get back to it. This week I tweaked the beam boost mechanic. Now you can reflect projectiles and become invincible, making it way easier to move around!

Currently finalising the designs for the level's boss, so look forward to that!

Got around to doing some sound design and implementation this week and honestly, its pretty bad.

Audio will make or break a game's experience, so starting early and getting it just right is vital. This game will sound good eventually and I'll definitely share more as it happens.

Been a slower couple of weeks, but I've made good progress on my other project: a card game inspired by the MtG Jumpstart sets.

Designing (particularly balancing) a card game is difficult but a really good way to excersise those important design fundamentals.

Introduced a new enemy type this week. Needed a little more zoning so missiles it is. With this I think my suite of enemies is good for the first level. Now to move on to actually designing encounters.

Here's a little debug view from my game.
I was really happy with my separation of the background and the level, as it makes placing enemies and movement lines easier.

But I now realise this means I can't use the background for obstacles or turrets. Every system has its pros and cons.

A no-context look into me being bad at my own game 😅

Trying my hand at building a game by myself is teaching me a lot and I felt like sharing some of the things I'm making. Both to motivate myself and maybe inspire someone try making something.
Hopefully I can turn posting neat things into a habit.
