there are many reasons why you might want contact-free handling and reagent mixing (hazardous materials, preventing container contamination/reactions, controlling heterogenous nucleation for crystal growth/meta stable states...). It's also really fun!

Hi Chris, I've modified my CV to emphasise transferable skills, waiting for some feedback and planning to send to recruiters this week. None of my grant and lectureship applications none of which have come to fruition. I want to work somewhere with better work/life balance where my skills are valued

The problem with awards is not that the people getting them do or do not deserve them, but that grant/job/promotion application expect a "list of awards". it's un unwritten rule that these are career advancing tools. the disparity of access to them is huge.
