I made an elaborate joke on here today combining contemporary Labour Party politics with early christological debates, and a few minutes later a dick joke, and the respective responses to the multitudes I contain reflects poorly on you all, to be frank.

How do you get to vote for the version of the Labour Party that exists in Daily Telegraph headlines?

Went to watch Blue Moon today at Swiss Cottage Odeon and it was a real trip down memory lane watching a film at the first cinema I ever went to, walking along that still familiar patch of Finchley Road.

This man did everything for me and his whole family. I owe him so much. Am I supposed to accept the logic that he was of less worth than me on account of him being a waiter rather than a lecturer, or being born in Cyprus rather than Britain? That that doesn’t somehow devalue me as well?

By way of comparison, and to illustrate their priorities, this is what they fined a player *13 years ago* for ambush marketing.

Basically I still don’t think minority politicians should be held to a higher standard on racism than their white British counterparts (as in this tweet) due to their ethnicity, especially not by white Britons. But what Mahmood is effectively asking is to be held to a LOWER standard for that reason.

San Marino scoring a very early surprise opening goal only to lose 7-1 in the final game of a World Cup qualifying group seems strangely familiar.

I do sometimes think it would be funny to reply to Americans obviously posting about US politics with replies assuming they were talking about say Cyprus or another smallish country with very specific politics, like with bog-standard Simpsons memes except about ‘bizonal bicommunal federation’.

And as if to further make the point. The anti-Blackness in discourse around the (approx 50% non-white) England team, including frequently from those overseeing it, is incredibly overt.

Ed Miliband quote about why he doesn’t want to be PM also demonstrating the kind of easygoing, self-depreciating charisma that would serve him well in the role.

Ahmet and Ibbi who ran our local Wimpy are the sons of Cypriot migrants, who beyond that connection also made us and the kids feel so welcome every time we went there. Lovely guys who will be sorely missed by all their customers.
