Sonic Unleashed (2008, Sonic Team)

This was generally pretty miserable to play. The locales are neat and the sense of speed in the day stages is great, but it feels so janky most of the time.
The PC port/recomp is some excellent work though, playing this at 240fps is a delight.

The French Connection (1971, dir. William Friedkin)

Doyle is an unlikeable failure and Gene Hackman does a great job protraying him. The way events unfold had me shaking my head (complimentary).
This movie needs a 4K rescan badly, the Blu-Ray version looks horrible.

A Beautiful Mind (2001, dir. Ron Howard)

It's okay. The film isn't very interesting visually and none of the characters felt sympathetic, but I thought the last act was nice.

This is a little funny to me

Xenogears (1998, Square)

This might be the most narratively ambitious game I've ever played. But the team bit off way more than it could chew and the degree to which disc 2 is compromised sours the experience.
Still, this is very impressive work and I'm now interested in the whole franchise.

Angel’s Egg (1985, dir. Mamoru Oshii)

Beautiful and utterly incomprehensible. I struggle to put into words the emotions this has made me feel, but I was mesmerized in any case.
I hadn't seen anything Amano worked on prior to Final Fantasy so that was also valuable in that respect.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014, dir. Wes Anderson)

Absolutely loved this. I've never seen a movie shot like this, it's an awesome look that matches the tone of the film perfectly. Great pacing, too.

In the Mood for Love (2000 , dir. Wong Kar-Wai)

Very pretty picture, unfortunately it didn't resonate much with me, which is how I feel about every Wong Kar-Wai film I've seen.

Enter the Dragon (1973, dir. Robert Clouse)

It's alright. Lee is a badass.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004, dir. Michel Gondry)

Can I be loved genuinely?

Cure (1997, dir. Kiyoshi Kurosawa)

This is phenomenal. The way it's shot, the way it sounds, the way it looks, the characters it portrays, it's all excellent.
It's hard to put into words how mesmerizing this movie is.

[Replay] Perfect Dark (2000, Rare)

Replayed through this in Perfect Dark (hardest) difficulty. This is a fantastic game that gets increasingly more annoying to play the further in you get. The soundtrack bangs, the controls are smooth and the weapons are fun. But its a PITA a lot of the time.

Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc (2025, MAPPA)

Excellent through and through. The animation is a delight to look at, the OST is great and the writing is a real emotional gut punch.

[Replay] SWAT 4 (2005, Irrational Games)

This is still fantastic. The mix of tactical gameplay and super tense atmosphere just doesn't get old.

Halloween (1978, dir. John Carpenter)

This was fine. It didn't make me feel much of anything. I like Michael as an unstoppable antagonist with small humanizing touches like looking both ways before driving a crossroad.

The inclusion of clips from The Thing from Another World is an awesome touch.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent (2010, Frictional Games)

Unsettling, oppressive atmosphere, a depraved narrative and interesting puzzles make this a great time.
It's also much less scary that what I built up in my head.

Ghostbusters (1984, dir. Ivan Reitman)

This was okay. It's entertaining at times but it felt a little too misogynistic.

Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988, Nintendo)

An amazing platformer. The levels are plentiful, fun and pretty challenging later on. Branching paths and bonuses and powerups keep the playthrough interesting.

The game also likes to troll the player at times which I found very entertaining.

"No necro" is such a stupid forum rule. Someone writes a useful reply to an old thread and mods get anal about it.

The Evil Dead (1981, dir. Sam Raimi)

This was alright. It has a few awesome shots and I like how the posessed are having fun torturing the group, but for the most part I wasn't particularly engaged.

Saw (2004, dir. James Wan)

I thought this was a torture porn franchise but the first movie at least is quite a nice thriller (with a little torture).
I unfortunately had the final twist spoiled so I didn't experience apotheosis.
Still, this was good.

Serious Sam 2 got an anniversary update. Very nice. Perhaps after 13 years of owning it it's time for me to actually play this game.

The Exorcist (1973, dir. William Friedkin)

I often read this is the scariest movie ever but I only found it a little unsettling. However I did find the movie interesting thematically. Overall, this was good.

The 4K transfer looks quite nice up to the exorcism scene where it looks like shit.
