Admittedly that wasn't a very direct reply to what you said- I do agree that Marvel is probably the main perpetrator of my apathy towards the whole multiverse concept.

And also surprisingly the idea of finite multiverses and finite timelines is really under-explored, which is part of why I feel apathetic about the infinite multiverse.

Though in general I just wish storymakers would just explore the main universe just a bit more than they do sometimes.

I think a very simple thing that makes the idea of the multiverse fun is the concept of a finite multiverse.

It's like having more to explore beyond the universe but without the feeling of forced scale and easy plot devices. Finite multiverses also means that the worldbuilding actually matters.

Also I love that quote so much, I'll have to read up on the person behind it at some point.

The theories like in real life? I think they're are interesting enough, they might be born of the human desire to explore beyond what we're limited to in our own universe, but that desire isn't a bad thing and there very well could be a multiverse.

WAIT SO I DO THIS THING WHERE I LISTEN TO MUSIC AND IF IT'S GOOD I START MAKING A CHARACTER OR STORY LOWKEY INSPIRED BY IT DO YOU DO THIS TOO?!?

Character: Why the fuck are aliens invading AGAIN???

Writer:

Writer: So ever heard of this thing called writer's block?

It feels like an unwillingness to explore the size and beauty of anything finite. Infinite universes rarely comes from an actual necessity to be infinite.

Maybe this is sadness only a space nerd can experience or maybe I'm just picky about semantics, but the concept just turns my brain off.

Don't get me wrong, there are stories that explore this concept well, but there's so many more that have it there just to be there. And I don't think that's fundamentally wrong, but I find it uninteresting.
