It exists and is the matter of some contention at the moment. However many proponents and detractors of Ulster Scots on ideological grounds don't seem to know the first thing about it.

of Ulster. The highly sophisticated literature of John Barbour, followed by James I, Robert Henryson, William Dunbar, Gavin Douglas, and David Lyndsay, uses many of the same words still found today in Ulster Scots, as Seamus Heaney, who translated Henryson, pointed out.

Irish. There is also an interpenetration between Hiberno-English, of the Ulster variety, and Ulster Scots. My grandmother (b. 1887) learned the poetry of Robert Arthur Wilson (Barney Maglone) in primary school. The cultural and intellectual high point of the language is the 15th and 16th century ...
