You’re getting kinetic energy and momentum confused; recoil is about momentum conservation. Halve the mass of the projectile and increase speed by sqrt(2) and you’ll have the same KE for ~30% less momentum and recoil.
But also that’s not really relevant for big naval cannons anyway.
