Working on a study of a vampire bat. There's a decent amount of resources available for the musculature of the wings and upper body, but if anyone knows of some good resources on hind-legs send them my way.

Little process video of the last painting. Started with a 3D mock-up to help make some lighting and perspective decisions. I needed to take some extra photo reference gathering trips to the woods before I could make decisions about the forest floor though.

Apparently I do bird crafts now. Hopefully these preserve well, it’s my first time drying bird bits with salt and borax. (This is a dusky grouse hen, legal to harvest and own, be aware many other birds are protected under the MBTA and are illegal to possess)

Was struck by a whim to do a couple quick updated sketches on how I generally imagine hexapodal skeletons whenever drawing dragons. Then I became distracted by summer and gardening and also perfectionism kicked in and they ended up being not so quick...

Little bat does a hop.
Was doing sketch studies of how bat wings fold up and they ended up being enough for a gif cycle. Animation is hard. Might have been easier if I used proper animation software rather than PS.

Ooh man. Nostalgia wave from this lovely dragon showcase at the bookstore. The naturalist style of writing and stylized illustrations in Dragonology had such a huge influence on my personal tastes as a kid. I owe a lot to this book.

As a kid playing Sonic Adventure 2 I would have never in my wildest dreams imagined that it would one day get a movie adaptation. I loved Sonic 3, I was giddy and astounded the entire time with how much they included from the games this time around. I think Shadow approves.
