The most unpatriotic members of any society are the far right. They will always align with foreign interests against the interests of their own nations. They will always undermine national institutions and national values in pursuit of their own interests. When they pose as patriots, they lie.

Here’s some more science. @chrischirp.bsky.social has mapped what’s happening against authoritarian features.

The consequences are now playing out in Europe too. The world as we know it has changed &. We are now in a new dangerous reality.

NEW: Last week’s newsletter had ‘IT’S A COUP’ in big red letters on front page of NYT. Well, guess what? It still is. We have to stop framing what’s happening as in any way normal. It’s a coup & a collapse in the international order & none of this is ‘normal’

Thread for those new to BlueSky. First of all, welcome. It feels like a safer space, doesn’t it? But also perhaps a bit disorienting initially? Here’s some tips for getting your bearings.

Absolutely love the #bluesky approach to trolls.
As Twitter dies trolls are looking at other media outlets to engage. Hide their replies. Then go to their profile and block them. Never engage. They will soon tire of their trolling if they get no response. Peace and Harmony prevails when we stick together.

This is a long (make a coffee!) but really interesting read if you are interested in democracy.
In the second of 2 parts, Bob Bater discusses how voting could be made fairer. Could a simple variation on a proportional representation system give voters what they deserve and breathe new life into an ailing political system?

Reminder to anyone who needs it:
You don't have to share all your thoughts online.
You're allowed to say what you like, ignore what you like, engage when and if you want to.
None of that is a judgement on whether you care. Silent prayer is as valid as rending of the garments.
