Rec'd my PhD in Germanic Philology from UNC-CH many moons ago. Avid reader of different genres over the years, currently mysteries & thrillers & working my way slowly through _Indo-European Language & Culture_. Love to crochet.
She was. My Cajun mother was mostly taught to cook by my Sicilian grandfather, but she did make some Cajun dishes. Her shrimp jambalaya was great. I realized in recent years that she must have used her red gravy rather than any other form of the tomato base, so the jambalaya was slightly sweet.

Well, it'll just be my niece & I. If it turns out well, I can make it for our extended family Christmas dinner instead of my usual spinach & cream cheese casserole, which has been my Christmas dinner contribution for years.

Thanks for your reply! I don't think my mother actually used a recipe. In fact, I don't remember her ever using a recipe, but I was a kid & probably not paying enough attention.

Thanks for your reply! It was definitely eggplant. Thyme is a good suggestion. I was thinking perhaps a teaspoon of crab boil would work.

If you're allergic to NSAIDS, you're probably allergic to aspirin, as I am, so be careful.
