Fulton St Collective (re: my previous post) hosts terrific concerts several times a week. I do live painting there about once a month. This is from Wednesday night, a painting of the wonderful Matt Mallinger
vertical painting in black, white, and grey on a white background. very loosely painted, semi-abstract image of a drummer in black playing, brush and sticks flying. Some people see the figure more easily, others mostly see abstract work.

🪶 Today would've been Mikhail Mokeyev's 51st birthday. I've been posting photos he took, mostly at Montrose in Chicago; a little tribute to a kind, talented human who's missed. After misidentifying a Magnolia as a Canada yesterday, I double-checked today's. This spectacular hot mess is a Downy.
Perched facing away from us on a split branch, the bird is a tufty, ruffled swirl of black and white plumes and spots, with a few scruffy red feathers on its nape, a sturdy bill in profile, and light caught in a beautiful red-brown eye.

Just the head and top of the breast of a small bird otherwise hiding in very green leaves. Medium silvery grey side of head and shoulder, yellow throat and breast, a hint of yellow showing at the top of the back. Beak tilted upwards. White spots above and below the eye, on the eye ring, look like bright reflected light, but are not. Watching us

Largish bird with its black-and-white fully spotty back to us, on a dark tree trunk, with some pale blue and green shapes of blurry leaves in the top left background. Bird has head tuned to our right, probably keeping an eye on the camera, displaying its long sturdy woodpecker bill, dark eye with light buff feathers above and below it, and a bit of red above and below the bill.

🪶Red-Winged Blackbirds are a menace, but I like this immature male. He's stunning if you appreciate spotty things (cf Gerard Manley Hopkins). Mikhail took two detailed photos of him. In this first one he looks lost and somewhat diapered 😂

🪶Another pic MM took of the same bird (I posted a picture of it earlier), looking fatter and cuter, more as if he has aspirations, and not exhibiting his tongue.
same bird as in the previous post (see alt text), chest out, beak slightly open, head feathers just a bit fluffed up. We see the yellow spot above the eye and a black stripe on the head more clearly. 3/4 view, to our left.

Somewhat puffed-up songbird, calling (open beak and you can see the tip of a very sharp tongue in profile against the blue sky. What we see in profile is a light breast, brown, white-striped wings, yellow above the eye, white patch at the throat. On a curved branch, with long dangling flowers (I think flowers?)
