Rocky Myers had been on death row in Alabama for decades despite serious flaws in the case. In 2023 he was part of our Write for Rights campaign, where 100s of 1000s worldwide urged Alabama Gov Kay Ivey to commute his sentence. On Feb 28, 2025, Gov Ivey granted that commutation.

As if facing death were not horrifying enough - the US requires an inmate choose a method of execution they “would accept” if they want to be able to challenge a method. Abolish the death penalty.

There have been studies (and anecdotes in public debates), that as one increases knowledge of the death penalty, the less one supports it.

In another fantastic development, Zambia has been reclassified as a fully abolitionist country, having removed all references to the death penalty for any crime.
Previously Zambia had been classified as abolitionist for ordinary crimes only.
