Also never have been anywhere that’s put up a flag before. Can’t thank @zeiss-microscopy.bsky.social Customer Care enough for their hospitality including Zeiss Cocktails in the hotel! Especially as KLM lost my bag - so Zeiss kitted me out with shirts & a hoodie etc so I had a change of clothes.

Just back from an intense/incredibly productive trip to Oberkochen @zeiss-microscopy.bsky.social testing out the Lightfield4D & LSM990 microsystems. Completely being blown away by their speed & resolution.
The range/capabilities of the systems on show at Zeiss customer care centre is overwhelming.

#BlueJays #let’splayball
I usually decry the tribal nationalism of sports but, I’ve supported the Jays since inception. I was at the Expos/Jays Canada Day game. My family go to games every summer we’re home.
& now this series seems a metaphor for a fight against encroaching Kleptocracy. #ElbowsUp!

An image from Ed Kravitz’s Obit - speaks very much to the point that Josh has made in his piece.
Science - by attempting to discern underlying truths, demanding that findings are tested & hypotheses are driven by results & are not bent to suit the needs of kleptocrats - is by definition political.

After a very long hard day at work - came home and noticed this notification from @currentbiology.bsky.social and my spirits were immediately lifted.

@mads100tist.bsky.social is it wrong that this makes me feel validated?

I’d worry more that this appears to be something out of The Matrix.

“In a simulated world, which is built both on illusion and deception, distraction is the perfect weapon for keeping one complacent and from asking questions.”

On Arran the coastal rd between Brodick & Corrie is out. So what should be a 12min drive is ~1.5hrs. But worth it to get to Mara Fish Arran for the freshest tastiest seafood. The food is too good to give Mac any despite his best begging efforts.
And the drive to get here ain’t half bad either.

I know I should marshall some cogent statement involving the decades of scientific research surrounding Autism, but … really… all I want to say is …

‘These guys can go fuck themselves’.

Scrolling through my photo library when these 2 photos jump out & 2 things immediately sprang to mind.
1) 26 years separates these photos &, while we may be greyer & slower, the smiles are still the same.
2) I still have the microscope that’s beside me on the bench.

That’s a good looking quilt.
I admit I have no capacity to quilt myself, but I have a daughter who does so I can understand the effort involved (daughter’s quilt by way of evidence - she used it as part of her submission to get into art school).

As may be inferred from my recent spate of random posts I am on vacation.
One of the highlights so far has been discovering you enter the Wolfe Island Ferry Terminal via The Tragically Hip Way. About as Canadian as you can get.
I have of course been listening to Road Apples non-stop.

This weekend escaped the rain of Glasgow for sunny Dundee to watch my daughter Darcy, as the God Aries, participate in ‘Meet the Gods’, part of Jeremy Deller’s Triumph of Art installations supported by DJCAD x the National Gallery.
A fantastic interactive display.

No Fluorescence Friday as we’ve been told that a sewage pipe is threatening to disgorge it contents. No taps/toilets can bd used & so we’ve been told to exit the bldg. & enjoy the sunshine.
Minutes later I’m out the door, but not before the Tarp of Doom is used to cover the Elyra - just in case….

In Inverness - gateway to the Scottish highlands - a remnant from a not so distant era. Amazingly it still seems to work, has not been vandalised (much) nor used as an outdoor toilet.

A fantastic day at the 2025 Glasgow Imaging Network Symposium, learning about developments & research using imaging techniques through outstanding talks & posters.
& the @glasgowimaging.bsky.social organisers gave me the opportunity to promote the @mvls-srf.bsky.social Cellular Analysis Facility.

This is Teddy. He’s only sticking his tongue out because he can’t be arsed hauling it in. It’s called being old.
