I have three cats and love reading! I also love fiber arts, but knit so ferociously that I gave myself tendonitis and had to stop! Now I've branched out into spinning, weaving, sewing, and bobbin lace! I also have a garden and some mental illness!

Started a lace shawl using my handspun yarn 🧶 was going to make a conventional lace shawl with a conventional design - ended up choosing one that is all over ‘leaves’. #knitsky #handspinning #handknit Details in the Alt Text
On a sky blue background, we see some hand knitting in progress. It is on the flexible part of a circular needle - curved into a circle to show the leafy lace design as much as possible (it should be more visible once off the needles and blocked) - it is a crescent shaped shawl. Stitch markers are in place along the knitting - a little of the cake of yarn is visible at the top of the photo The pattern is the Mallorn Shawl by jkbeckert - on Ravelry. The yarn is handspun from fibre blended and dyed by Ixchel Fibres - it’s a lovely merino, silk & cashmere blend - the colourway she called ‘Shadow of Mordor’. A pretty & soft variegation from pale grey green sage, through sandy lt brown (pale toast colours), to antique rose. I plyed it with a commercial lace weight wool that I had tea dyed to a dull cream. The result is a bit thick & thin (my handspun always is!) but about a 3ply in thickness.

One of the most extreme weather divides of the year is here. The Sierra Nevada faces a snowicane with up to 8 feet of snow and 100 mph winds. Meanwhile, the East gets a Christmas torch with temps 30 degrees above normal. It feels like October, not December.

A ‘wedgewood’ blue cardigan on a dressmaker’s mannequin - in a garden, plants and ceramic pots in the background. The mannequin is turned 3/4 to the left. The cardigan has a deep V neckline, 7 closely spaced buttons. Deep ribbing bands (hip band is about 4”). Tight fitting with narrow vertical panels - texture with - little lace. I adapted this from a couple of late 1940s -early 50s vintage Patons patterns. The yarn - from Bendigo Woollen Mills - their ‘Classic’ in 5ply (sports weight) A mushroom brown cardigan jacket on a dressmaker’s mannequin - a black skivvy and skirt are under the Cardie, a white painted brick wall is behind the mannequin. A very deep V neckline - 2 large buttons at the tummy. There are pockets on the hips - borders are Moss Stitch - the rest is a textured stitch that looks like rows of OOOs Made for a stage play - part of a costume for a ‘matron’. A blend of vintage design ideas - shape from a vintage Patons pattern but in a different thickness of yarn - and a different stitch pattern … and with added pockets Bendigo Woollen Mills yarn an 8ply (DK)
