Our findings support the necessity of trauma-informed care in endometriosis. This could even help avoiding further delays on the top of the average 7-10 years in the diagnosis of the disease.

Endometriosis PRS was associated with the disease itself, but we found no interaction with traumatic events, suggesting that trauma assessment could help identify individuals at higher risk.

We also conducted genetic correlation analyses between endometriosis and 23 trauma-related phenotypes, with the strongest associations observed for PTSD and childhood maltreatment.

These experiences included sexual, physical, and emotional traumas (see the results of our LCA below). We also observed that contact traumas (traumatic events involving physical contact with the abuser) also occured more frequently in patients.
