Took a short evening paramotor flight a few miles upwind this evening. When I got back, I saw my friend Gaff videoing me as he was walking home from the hangar, so I did a flyby.

The ground between my camper and the landing areas finally dried up enough to ride the Onewheel on, and we finally got an evening with manageable winds, so for the first time in over two months, I took the paramotor up for a flight.

Two paramotor instructors visit an NWS station and learn from a meteorologist who's also a paramotor pilot. If you're into air sports, you should be into weather, and you should check this out.

Had a dream where I found Elon sleeping in the bed I'd made for myself at my brother's house even though I'd made one for him in a guest room. Said "WTF man" and dragged him to the other room. He wasn't happy with the sheets so I told him I'd give him a ride to buy some fucking new ones.

Dad didn't feel like sloshing around in the flooded area around the camper this evening, so to compensate for the lack of exercise, we drove 25 miles round trip to buy some distraction sticks at Tractor Supply.

Yay! Now I don't have to scroll past useless games and shorts that I'm never interested in on Youtube.

I'm calling this one "Pollination."

What does a long-since-former web application developer turned skydive instructor do on a rainy day with no work? Create SVG art with javascript. That's what this one does, anyway. Sometimes.

Wow! 6:30 am and 16 degrees outside, and I still have running water in the camper! I'm honestly amazed, since the fresh water tank hangs exposed under the trailer and at least three feet of vinyl hose is exposed before running into the insulation. I get to shower before going outside!

I like the HRRR (high resolution rapid refresh) model, as it seems to be the more consistently accurate one, in my experience. Hopefully, that proves true tomorrow in the wee hours. I'd like to wake up with running water in my camper.

About four hours later than usual, but I finally convinced Bela to go outside and get her business done despite the snow. It was either that or try to convince her to do it in the shower pan.

It's time to go for the morning poop/pee walk, but as soon as I opened the door, Bela made it clear that she would rather just hold it for now. It's her first time seeing snow up close, and I'd been wondering if she'd like snow. Guess not.

I gave my dog, Bela, one of my honey lemon menthol cough drops, figuring she'd hate it and stop hovering near me asking for one. She's over on the bed crunching on it now, presumably about to come ask for another one. Ugh.

I spent a few hours making the design I had printed on the hoodie (see previous post) work for a long sleeve jersey, then got back to working on my latest drawing. This will probably look good on some clothing.

On sort of a commission for a friend, I designed a hoodie with my then-latest Javascript->SVG art. I told her to hold off on ordering until I verified that the quality was good, and I'm happy to say that I like it!

Winds died down and I wasn't too tired or hungry and I'd already walked Bela, so I flew the paramotor around for about 40 minutes around sunset.

Bela and I took advantage of the holiday lull in traffic, and headed downtown to ride the Buffalo Bayou trails and nearby streets. The parks were busy, but downtown was a ghost town. Perfect for exploring with a Onewheel and an active doggo.

Went into the city to do laundry and exchange the stupid SodaStream canisters and get stuck in construction traffic today. When I wasn't busy doing that, I did this. Bun running Typescript using React/JSX to render SVG to disk and rsvg-convert to create PNG and update desktop wallpaper.

Why does Bluesky have a 300 character limit on posts? I understand why legacy Twitter had 140 character limit, since they started out as a glorified SMS service. It's frustrating to have to curate my thoughts to fit within this seemingly-arbitrary constraint. Sixteen characters left.

I'm so done with the SodaStream cylinder exchange BS. Living on the road, I used to do it at Walmart, now Target. Half the time the CS clerk has no idea what to do. Today, they gave me two new cylinders and weren't going to charge me. As much as I love a good deal, that's not how it works.

I was trying to nap this afternoon, but I had an idea about how to improve some code I wrote a while back, specifically regarding the radii of circles in a phyllotaxic pattern. So this evening, I wrote the functions and used them to make this.

Bun, Typescript, React/JSX, librsvg.

This graph clearly shows when I broke my foot, forcing me to spend a lot of time at home. It was during this time that I switched my NixOS configurations to use nix flakes and switched from the Sway window manager to Hyprland.

Today marks two years since the stinky, stray pitbull decided I was going to be her forever person.

Lately, I've seen the old trope about the three hardest things in software development, one of which is naming things. Sure, naming things in software development can be challenging. Naming art is much harder. I broke down and called this one BunSVG20241214 for now. :-p
