In my own research on registration/pay-walls I’ve read research that claims this approach leads to higher conversions. I’m conflicted now…

The crime is not what we were doing protesting in the 10th floor elevator lobby of 26 Federal Plaza.

The crime is what ICE agents are doing on the other side of the door.

When people talk abstractly about internet outages (like Cloudflare) I like to think about it as “imagine all the water-supply/roads in France and Germany stopped working for a few hours”. It’s not comparable (too understated) but it helps me understand the impact

I’m on a plane to London and I am harshly judging all those I see with the default apps in their iPad OS or macOS dock. This is my life now.

This morning @restofworld.org published the incredibly heart-breaking story of Gaza Sky Geeks, the vibrant Gaza-based tech hub that was the darling of international press through the 2010s 🧵

Canvassers knocked on my door and asked if I was voting for Mamdani in the NYC mayoral election. I replied “who’s that?” and managed to keep a straight face for a moment. So worth it.

Maybe there’s some 4D chess to starving 40 million Americans, doubling healthcare costs on another 20 million, and sending masked goons out on the streets to snatch and disappear an untold number more, but honestly I’m not seeing it.

I did a non-trivial amount of work on the use of facial recognition in Login.gov while in leadership at GSA, and at Treasury. The short version: it's racist. (And that was for 1-to-1 matching, which is much simpler than 1-to-many.) The error rate on this must be horrifying.
New: Videos show ICE/CBP agents are scanning peoples' faces on the street to verify citizenship. ICE has tool to instantly look up unprecedented number of databases with just a photo

“I’m an American citizen so leave me alone”

“Alright, we just got to verify that”

Videos on social media show officers from ICE and CBP using facial recognition technology on people in the field. One expert described the practice as “pure dystopian creep.”
