Wastewater testing in BC has recently decreased in frequency, and several wastewater plants have stopped testing entirely, which is likely to result in less accurate data.

Wastewater surveillance works by quantifying the amount of virus shed by infected people into the community’s wastewater system(s). While these measurements by themselves cannot tell us how many people are infected, tracking changes in these measurements over time can give us a complementary sense of circulation of respiratory viruses. Report updated on October 9th, 2025. Data is presented up to the reporting period of epi week 40 (September 28-October 4, 2025). Influenza A, B and RSV low in all regions, and SARS-CoV-2 moderate/high in Northern, Interior and Coastal regions, high on the Island and in the Fraser region, and trending upwards in Fraser and Northern regions. There are multiple abundant lineages (XFG.2, XFG.10, and NB.1.8.1.)

2. Adopt the 2018 edition, and revise again once the new edition is published.

Because the CSA's newest edition of Z94.4 isn’t finalized yet, WorkSafe plans to use a soon-to-be-outdated 2018 edition.

This edition doesn’t include the latest science on airborne transmission, and doesn’t require N95s in healthcare settings – unlike the proposed 2025 edition.

With school back in session and the weather starting to cool down, we’re seeing COVID rates high across Canada (~1 in every 65 people is infected), and very high in BC (~1 in 47). The current dominant COVID lineage in most of BC is still NB.1.8.1, nicknamed “razor blade throat”.

Notable findings of the chart include: Influenza A low in all regions, Influenza B low in all regions, RSV low in Northern and Interior regions, and SARS-CoV-2 moderate in all regions but trending upwards in all regions except for Fraser which is steady. Abundant lineage is NB.1.8.1 in all regions except for Fraser where it is PQ.17.
