I just noticed at YouTube the hover effect on cards seems to be custom to each video. I assume they are getting the most prominent color from the thumbnail. They also update the text color to match.

This could have been CSS (except getting the color from the image) but it's all JS here. 😞

Over the weekend I got a chance to meet up with some people from the internet! 🛜

These are the NYC Overcooked! 2 pros. I've been playing with them for a while online. We probably have nearly 10k hours in the game combined! So glad I could finally meet them in person. Hoping to do this more often. 🧑‍🍳

🚀 Excited to announce my first book: Mise en Mode — an approach to adding creative expression into design systems! 🎉

First debuted at Clarity 2023, the strong interest led me to expand it into a full book.

📖 Be the first to know when it’s available: mode.place

Yeah, looks like the idea is exposing some visual data to CSS so that it might be used elsewhere. In this case, looks like using ResizeObserver to post the width of the input/button. I never really considered them as "read only" but looking at this usage it makes sense.

Added a little "Unvisited" banner for posts that you haven't visited on the blog. This was more annoying than it should have been, because `:visited` is subjected to fingerprinting. So, I had to make the banner match the background color to hide it.

This Wireframe has upgraded to high fidelity! 🌟

For the past few days, I teased a new format for Wireframe. That includes a brand-new set! There are a few details I need to iron out, but I expect to have a live show in the new studio this coming week.

I'm going to be adding checklists to my design system's component pages soon.

1. import checklist from './checklist.md?raw';.
2. Assign as parameters { checklist }.
3. Grab the text from within the custom preview.tsx docs page template with the useOf hook.
4. Add in storybook/addon-docs <Markdown/>

I added links to the newsletters and large websites that feature articles from the blog. Always a treat to find out where my posts wind up.

Only one of these people is in their 40s.

It's me, I'm 42½.

My wife is blissfully still in her 30s. 💖

Making fill level sensors in my house notify me when to do laundry in the morning or when the trash needs to be taken out. The indoor ones have been working nicely. The outdoor ones need to include a solar panel to keep them operational.

I was a bit cryptic last night here over my sensor frustration so here's a photo of what I've made.

Luckily I did notice in the MQTT explorer that all the sensors are broadcasting, they just have new IP addresses.

I knew that was going to happen.
