Attending the #Avatar event tonight with my daughter was special. She loved the #FireAndWater doc and the Q&A with James Cameron and the cast. The exhibit was a blast as well. My budding filmmaker got a look at how world class filmmaking is done.

We may not be sure how sorry to feel for him, but Noah Baumbach's JAY KELLY manages to evoke poignancy and empathy out of an actor looking back on his life. Fantastic, career-best work from George Clooney and Adam Sandler, with an exquisite score behind them. #JayKelly #Netflix

BUGONIA is another triumph for Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone, and Jesse Plemons, a darkly hilarious but also bleak and horrifying look at the ways humans destroy themselves inside and out. One of the year's most haunting endings.

Paul Thomas Anderson's ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER is epic, bravura, propulsive filmmaking. Immersive, intense, and often darkly comic, it features outstanding performances (Sean Penn is frightening), a brilliant score, and screen-filling vistas and action. One of the year's best.

I was afraid all the good bits in #TheRoses were in the trailer, but this is a hilarious, highly entertaining romp. Perfect work from Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, with lunatic support from McKinnon and Samberg... And more than a little truth about love and marriage.

Are people serious when they wonder whether Scott Rose-Marsh's red hair is an impediment to him playing 007? Has no one ever heard of hair coloring?

WEAPONS is highly original, unpredictable, terrifying and engrossing. Director/writer Zach Creggar goes for a narrative and tonal balancing act and largely succeeds. This is top-notch horror.

#FantasticFourFirstSteps has tons of heart thanks to its terrific cast (Pedro and Vanessa especially) and leans into the comics in a delightful way. Galactus and Shalla-Bal are formidable. Visuals are often dazzling if a little messy at times. A strong step forward for the MCU.

Really @nytimes.com? "Mistakenly deported"? You are such cowards. This was no mistake. This was Gestapo tactics. Why can't you call it what it is, you quislings?

I'm delighted to say that THUNDERBOLTS* captures much of the spirit of the MCU in its best days. Character-driven, full of humor and heart, and seasoned with great comic book action, it's bolstered by a terrific cast led by the outstanding Florence Pugh.

I was looking forward to BLACK BAG, but it left me cold. Dull, needlessly convoluted, and not that sexy, Steven Soderbergh's spy caper had me glazing over waiting for something interesting or comprehensible to happen. The cast is excellent , but this is still a letdown.

COMPANION is a blast. A clever take on abusive relationships and controlling behavior, along with sharp jabs at technology and its ability to alienate. Don't watch the trailer. Go in unspoiled and enjoy the many twists. Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher are excellent.
