Put on WICKED: FOR GOOD after Thanksgiving festivities, and I was not a fan! First real dud of my FYC catch-up.
November 29, 2025 at 10:10 PM
I was nervous about taking turkey duties my first Thanksgiving away from home, but now it’s my pride and joy. Got my prep and process nailed down.

Hope all your Thanksgivings were a bounty of wonderful company and feasting in whatever form!

Apple pie? Good. Apple pie with ice cream? Better.

Apple pie with melted cheddar? Depending on my mood … best.

Quickie thoughts on TRAIN DREAMS, one of my favorites of 2025, streaming on Netflix now.

Ugh. It's finally time for me to tackle POLTERGIEST for my ongoing horror remake coverage at @bloody-disgusting.com.

Been dreading this one, because woof. No one needs to revisit that 2015 dudliest of duds. (Original is top-tier, duh.)

"There's a numbness that brings me back to studio rehashes of Robocop and Total Recall ... [boasting] one of the most disjointed finales of 2025."

THE RUNNING MAN is a real disappointment based on the talent involved.

Realized I never shared my full review lol: authory.com/MattDonato/T...

Awkwafina’s deep inhale and “Hah!” at the end of THE FAREWELL destroys me every time. 🖤

We came. We saw. We got the only $6 Wicked margarita Chilis had left. This location was out of dragonfruit of all things, sour apple flavor only. At least we can say we did it haha.

THE LUCKIEST MAN IN AMERICA is right in Paul Walter Hauser's wheelhouse. Likely won't get any awards attention, but glad I gave it a watch last night. Hauser's portrayal of a big-dreaming everyman is so authentically wounded, and the behind-the-scenes game show bits are a thrill. No Whammies here!

I know I know, don’t read the comments … but these put a smile on my face lol.

THE RUNNING MAN: Disappointment has nothing to do with Glen Powell’s casting or hamfisted yet compelling media corruption themes. For a while, it's very much my shit—until a horrendous third act that seems hacked to bits. Wright's funny-then-not tonal iffiness and choppy climax are a mood killer.

Let the games begin! Excited it’s finally time for THE RUNNING MAN.

ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER: PTA's commentary on performative activism is a powder keg of an introspective revolution thriller. So well acted throughout the ensemble. Comedy pops here and there to make a point, but the intensity of themes and storytelling make this epic fly by. "Best of 2025" stuff.

HEDDA: Nia DaCosta is stealthily one of the most interesting working filmmakers. That Gatsby-like hypnosis of high society is on display—sampling Babylon and Saltburn of late—in a thrilling Hedda Gabler adaptation. Tessa Thompson is sublime; elegance and excess are an intoxicating cocktail.

If you haven't seen Emilio's previous horror movie, BELZEBUTH, I highly recommend. Big time Álex de la Iglesia vibes. Tobin Bell plays a tattooed renegade exorcist-type. All gas, no brakes. Wild swings. Love it.

PREDATOR: BADLANDS? More like GOOD…LANDS!

But seriously, Dan Trachtenberg delivers the Predator sequel I didn’t know I needed. Laughed way more than expected (complimentary). Shades of Kong: Skull Island, James Gunn, and Saturday morning cartoons reign supreme.

A thrilling hunt with a full heart.

IN YOUR DREAMS: What a delightful yet maturely handled animated family flick that doesn’t shy away from life’s hardships and the trials we all face. Themes of being perfectly imperfect give the right message while being cute and funny, too. Metallica, laser farts, and Baloney Tony get the job done.
