Such a cool detail that the onomatopoeia for the glass breaking also looks like glass breaking! Even the shading of the wall behind the onomatopoeia seems to be shattering.

The way that the stairs fade into those lighter blues in panel 3 matches really nicely with Pepper's POV in this moment; he's trying to ground himself and finally take his own steps, and in return, his stairs, while still feeling kinda otherworldly, appear less threatening than usual.

I keep rewatching this, your animation work is really great!

It’s cool that this special moment in the comic was also the moment that Bluesky caught up with the comic!

It’s always fun seeing Achilles compliment Mars on something other than her strength; you can tell that those compliments really mean a lot to her.

Chloe and Mars are a pair whose similarities were clear from the beginning and have still remained, but their differences have become increasingly apparent as the comic has progressed. I like how Mars's dialogue echoing Chloe's at first but than changing to something else is a microcosm of that.

It's really neat that Mars enters the lighthouse saying exactly what Chloe said when she entered, but then starts to go off in a different direction.

It’s such a great detail that the cloud in the last panel is the same shape as the door from the very first page!

I’ll never forget that you gave us a comic on Christmas Eve AND the day after Christmas AND your birthday!

It ended up doing really well, placing 8th overall and 2nd in the categories of Fun, Control, and Originality, as well as 4th in Audio.

The truck on the shirt being taken straight from one of the Game Boy Pokémon games is such a great detail

After all this time, I still don't know what exactly made my mind think of Conlon Nancarrow when reading this page... but I think that's a testament to how compelling the characters are in this story, that they can lead you to such strange yet enlightening trains of thought.

Her line about "making your own chances" to make those changes says so much about her. She's been trying for so long to achieve this exact vision of hers, but over that time she's learned to deal with inevitable change and developed a willingness to try different approaches here and there.

As such, she's learned to deal with and even embrace change, knowing that it can also bring Halo Head closer to her intended vision.

What separates Clair from Nancarrow is that Clair doesn't really have that "player piano" equivalent. The very art she deals with - designing the land and residents of Halo Head - have so much life within them that she can't possibly achieve and maintain her exact vision.

He eventually found a groove for himself writing works for player piano. Since the piano played the music by itself, he could experiment with musical ideas that would be near impossible for a human to perform yet fairly easy for the player piano.

I mentioned this on Instagram before, but Clair's monologue here makes me think of the experimental classical composer Conlon Nancarrow. His works for live instruments were immensely difficult, so he felt dissatisfied when even the best performers tacked his work.

To me, this page is the encapsulation of who Clair is as a character: a well-intentioned artist working tirelessly to bring her specific vision to life who is forced to reckon with the change and unpredictability (especially from others) that comes with being an artist.

“do i feel this character was justified” can be a starting point for more interesting juicy stuff: WHY did they do it? how do these circumstances reflect their history/personality/feelings/etc…and that’s before even getting into what symbols and metaphors you can start sinking teeth into

It also says something about Mars that she didn't ask Achilles to keep this a secret, despite knowing him about as well as Pepper does. I think that, after seeing how uncomfortable Achilles was when Pepper pushed him to lie, she chose not to put him in that same uncomfortable situation.

This was a fun surprise to see!

If I did this list again, I’d probably swap Peachy and Chloe’s spots, especially given the pages that came after, but I still like that Chloe and Clair are on opposite ends of the list.

Thanks for sharing my comment! Hope it brought more people to the website!
