An RYA Level 3 Race Coach, Advanced Senior Instructor, and Powerboat Instructor with 45 years of sailing experience and 15 years of coaching. I work at all levels, mentoring new coaches and helping sailors achieve their best.
In the 2025-2028 RRS, Rule 17 has been simplified. The exception stating it doesn’t apply if an overlap begins while the windward boat is required to keep clear (Rule 13) has been removed. This change enhances clarity, ensures consistency, and promotes fairer competition in overlap situations.

I believe in continual small improvements—whether refining technique or growing confidence. This holiday, I focused on CPD, completing the UKAD Coach Clean certification. It reinforces clean sport, fairness, and leading by example, equipping me to guide sailors with integrity. Here’s to progress! 💪⛵

Skill development means balancing what you know with what you’re learning. New skills often cause a temporary dip in performance. My Progressive Enhancement method builds strong fundamentals while layering advanced techniques, helping you surpass limits with persistence.

Incremental improvements in basic manoeuvres build a foundation for success. The best sailors reach the top not by being flawless but by relentlessly improving. So don't copy everything the top sailors do, as they have reached the top in spite of their flaws, not because of them!

In dinghy sailing, success hinges on mastering the smallest details. Tiny adjustments—like sail trim, control lines, or body positioning—can mean the difference between leading and falling behind. Focus on details to build consistency, speed, and winning habits. #progressiveenhancement
