understanding the lyrics is of course a big lame excuse because its not like the people who go wierd about this have sophisticated takes on songs with clear and explicit lyrics like by RATM lol.

"i cant understand the lyrics", whether true or a rightwing lie, is only a reason not to listen or find enjoyment in music if you need to know everything about a thing BEFORE you experience, care, explore. it is the death of curiosity, and the desperation of paranoid narcissism.

this is the black iron prison built within. not being able to understand lyrics, or a film, or any art, or anything, is a rhetorical resource one can use to resist engaging with it, much like how we can resist answering questions by saying "i don't know".

david lynch talked about how people think they don't understand a film but actually they understand quite a lot because of intuition. i think this is exactly it; some people don't want to experience playing in the mystery, they want self-revealing self-explaining certainty, they want confirmation.

this makes me think of describing EMCA and people responding "oh like behaviourism" lol

Honestly, offensive words are only the tip of the iceberg. If we could agree on all the bad words and eradicate them, people would still perfectly capably do offensive bad shit. I haven't heard or been called a tranny for a long time, but terfs don't need it when you can say things like this 👇 15/16

A narrow focus on singular words is willful ignorance or denial of how talk works, esp. of how people say offensive things. Prejudicial talk is often designed to minimise risk of being accused of prejudice, whilst being hearable to relevant listeners (other bigots and their targets). 14/16

Remember when people used to say "sleep together" to mean 'have sex"? its the exact same thing, talking about fucking someone while not ACTUALLY talking about fucking someone.
Or, like, when people say 'freedom of speech" but they mean "freedom to say and do harmful things to people". 13/16

Stubbing your toe & going "ahh fudge!" does the same thing as "ahh fuck!" except one way is yucky & the other way is just saying the yucky thing without ACTUALLY saying the yucky thing. Same as how saying "gosh darnit" is just using the Lord's name in vain without ACTUALLY saying it in vain. 12/16
