I think Christianity is the greatest evil this world has ever known. Should have been a different face of oppression that met the Reaper this morning though.

My wrist hurts, I'm tired and I better relearn the art business because it appears I've lost a good deal of science funding. Finished this tonight, too tired to soak off the stick n stitch paper but that can wait until tomorrow.

I'll probably finish my jacket just in time for summer in the drought choked desert and just as my science research career implodes under this idiot fascist oligarchy....cartoon demons are about the only thing keeping me sane

Me: ok, I have got to review these peer articles

Me: and this film on Yakut food traditions, I was supposed to watch it two days ago

Me: and my lab and workspace is a mess, there is literally human skull on the floor

Me: guess it's time to watch the entirety of Hazbin Hotel for the 50th time

My George, my joy

With all my research and school and funding in jeopardy I'm finding solace and voice falling back into creative endeavors.
...a past doll work of mine "Bloody Mary", now dubbed Luna, resides at the NMSU where they made this video on Halloween

Even though it absolutely sucks to be a scientist right now, I do kinda love that we're cast as villains in MAGAWorld. I've waited my whole life to be the evil genius baddie. I will wickedly affirm all the genders and ruin the youth with magical gifts of critical race theory *pets my cutestupid cat

The DEI caused the plane crash narrative is a distraction. The tariffs are a distraction. Whatever insane nonsense Trump spews that the media will chase like cats chasing a laser light is a distraction. The only story that counts right now is the wholesale hijacking of control of the US government.

I am an old, very tired, currently very overwhelmed medical/public health researcher. A few things that bring me joy still are fabric arts and irreverent animated demons. So this is my current #wip, it's a jacket I will wear to conferences, I need to make joy wherever I can.

My nightly reminder that I have skills outside of the insanity that is STEM in the the U.S. right now. I'm working on new embroidery projects but this is my favorite to date, a thread painted, ribbon embroidery cloak I made and my little imp wore to Abney Park in London.

George is my joy. He was born to a feral mother in a dirty shed late on July 4th. I fully believe all the fireworks were fanfare for his arrival.

Another of my dolls from long ago...my favorite ghost...La Llorona, photographed at La Llorona Park on the bank of the Rio Grande.
I've almost convinced myself i should start making dolls again.

I think countries around the world should levy tariffs specifically on Tesla in response to US tariffs, as well as banning Twitter as a national security threat

driving a wedge between our co-dictators may be the most effective thing they can do

Trying to remind myself of all the joyful things I create, instead of dwelling on the absolute avalanche of crap that my medical research/public health work is experiencing right now.

Another of my long ago creations. When I go through the pictures of my dolls I remember how much joy I felt making them. Now, in medical research/public health, I'm sad all the time. It may be worth finding my way to dolls again.

Before I decided that middle age was the best time to go back to school and become a very tired reaearch scientist I was a cool and edgy doll artist.
Sometimes I miss these little guys with all my heart.

If you're wondering why scientists are freaking the fuck out about what's being described as a pause in spending, I have written an article just for you:
Science at risk: The funding pause is more damaging than you might think
Research that helps drive our economy is on hold and may face new ideological limits.
