We don’t get much of a fall in the lowcountry… but what we do get are some glorious days of mild temps and extended beauty.

Not pictured. Hordes of mosquitoes…

A Collect for Evening
Look down, O Lord, from your heavenly throne, illumine this night with your celestial brightness, and from the children of light banish the deeds of darkness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

One minute, you're just living your life, and the next, you're mimicking bird calls. Here’s how it happens.
Your Slow and Sad Descent Into Bird-Watching
You suddenly find that you’re able to distinguish the pa-chip-chip-chip of an American goldfinch. Before you know it, you’re mimicking bird calls.

Lots to process from our most recent 25th anniversary trip to Germany. These two placards I saw in Dachau have been taking up a lot of real estate in my mind.

The atrocities committed or offer to reconcile make no earthly sense.

Had this exact conversation with a friend this morning...
Bird sounds.

Last year my word of the year was curiosity. I hadn’t picked one this year… turns out the word choose me. “Seeing”

Ummm... so the numbers the Fed uses to make monetary decisions is not accurate?
Due to staffing shortages caused by the Trump administration, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has significantly increased its reliance on “imputations”, statistical guesswork used to fill in gaps where real data is missing. In some major cities, they’ve stopped collecting data altogether.

Went with my wife last night to see Donna. It’s been probably 15+ years since I’ve seen them live. The awesome part of the experience was being transported back in time… bands just hit differently when you have history. #listentolivemusic

We are not concerned about the historical truth of this, rather a higher poetical truth. - Thoreau

What is the higher poetical truth of our generation? Have we lost a part of our narrative poetical history? What have we replaced it with?

I remember a time when Father of the Bride was a comedy. Now it’s just dark foreshadowing. They grow up fast.

Deep thoughts from the #gratefulDead
I only want to hold you,I don't want to tie you down
Or fence you in the lines I might have drawn
It's just that I have gotten used to having you around
My landscape would be empty if you were gone

Spend a couple minutes with the wife farting around on the boards. First time out for the season and my legs were screaming. I’m out of shape 😶

Sauntered a bit today with the boys. Got rewarded with a Painted Bunting.

For this is the secret of successful sauntering. He who sits still in a house all the time may be the greatest vagrant of all; but the saunterer, in the good sense, is no more vagrant than the meandering river, which is all the while sedulously seeking the shortest course to the sea
