2 of them are already past the age where the wool is considered good. Not that I care, they're still my friends. I also let them keep their horns and tails.
Usually after they're shorn I just throw the wool out in the woods and let the various animals take it for their nests and beds.

I make them as comfortable as I can and will do that for as long as I can (they may even be a bit spoiled, but I like spoiling them). But yea, the industry does need changes.

I have 6 sheep. They get shorn once a year so they have one bad day a year, not even a day, an hour or two (not counting hoof trimming). The rest of the year they eat, sleep, ask for treats and scratches and complain when I run out of fresh 2nd cut hay and have to give them boring 1st cut hay.

He does have that look of a little kid wearing his dad's suit and walking around saying, "I'm a big boy now doing a big boy job!"
