Yes, playing as Desmond really felt like a chore – especially in the first two games. However, I really enjoyed the concept of 2 secret societies battling it out across multiple generations. It was a good concept for the late 00s and early 10s but they kept botching it with every release.

Rogue was definitely an interesting title considering it ran on the same engine as Black Flag with some improvements on the naval combat. It had strong opening acts as well but how the overall story develops is where it suffered for me.

Agree with you. I didn’t enjoy the American Assassins vs Templars story per se but those games actually provided a lot of gameplay improvements.

AC3’s new combat system was fun & it also introduced the naval battle system. Black Flag improved a lot of its janky elements, and Rogue perfected it.

All the Ezio games will make you fall in love with them. But once you’re done with them, it’s all downhill from there imo (with the exception of AC4 Black Flag)
