I had many interesting conversations at the #ASPP2025 held at Monash University. I gave a talk on happiness and hedonic adaptation and generally tried to promote the control theoretic worldview.

It's pretty obvious Woody Allen studied philosophy. But I had to double check. Here's a passage from Patrick McGilligan's 2024 biography.

Where can you find Pope Leo XIV next to Bruce Lee? On this poster I made of famous people who studied philosophy! (I hear Leo XIV is also wicked on the nun-chucks) #philosophy #philsky

I gave a talk at the University of the Third Age. A hundred people enthusiastic to hear and talk about metaphysics. A significant contrast from my usual teaching experience.

Mixed messages from my local liberal MPs fridge magnet calendar. On the one hand he has a dog and a blonde wife so he must be a good guy, but on the other hand they seem to be sitting in front of a concentration camp.

I am happy to have completed a draft of my book on happiness. But I must admit it was often a difficult and stressful task to keep up with my self-imposed schedule (especially in the second half of the year). If I write another one, I'm going to have to get some teaching/admin relief.

My colleague George Couvalis has a new book on metaphysics, starting from Aristotle and then developing original positions informed by contemporary science. The paperback is a mere $28 with the below discount code! rowman.com/ISBN/9798881...

Here’s the table of contents. Each story goes with a commentary on some possibility/question about what we are.

This is my favourite work of visual art that depicts philosophers. It's 'Logic' by Luca Della Robbia (c.1437) and is housed in the Duomo museum in Florence.

At the International Association for Perceptual Control Theory in Perth. Such a powerful approach to the mind and well-being. Consider me a convert!

I've just submitted the manuscript to Bloomsbury for my forthcoming collection on the philosophy of personal identity- 'Identity in Science Fiction: Brain transplants and other misadventures'. I'm looking forward to finally sharing this with the world!

I don't know why a hundred people have suddenly decided to follow me. I suppose I can show you a picture of my cat. Happy now?

Currently reading this. It has this hilarious character called 'Sartre' in it who keeps hallucinating crabs and imagines he can affect the outcome of World War II. One of de Beauvoir's best inventions.
