TLR4 is an important target in inflammation, and blocking it seems to have lots of valuable activities. From that paper, they showed a drop in neuropathic pain and drug reward, i.e., "feeling really good" from opioids and cocaine.

Since I'm not seeing it show up - I hate Disqus, it has never worked well for me - here is a link to (+)-naloxone and (+)-naltrexone as TLR4 antagonists: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Pharmacological characterization of the opioid inactive isomers (+)‐naltrexone and (+)‐naloxone as antagonists of toll‐like receptor 4
The toll‐like receptor TLR4 is involved in neuropathic pain and in drug reward and reinforcement. The opioid inactive isomers (+)‐naltrexone and (+)‐naloxone act as TLR4 antagonists, reversing neuropa...

That's what Allison says, and she travels to Glorioso's all the time. It's harrowing!

Oh yeah, one other thing: NIH, NSF, et al., also support start-up companies, small businesses with big ideas that rely on federal grants. Cuts like these may lead to cuts to their bottom lines, too.

Do some institutes like Scripps and the Salk have high IDC rates? Sure. You kinda need that to attract Nobel laureates and build in expensive areas. You want to negotiate that down? Come to the table. Don't let a guy cosplaying as America's CEO screw us small fries.

That IDC rate also goes toward upkeep and maintenance on our physical lab space. The fume hoods in my lab are double the age of my students and could fail at any minute. Will I be able to upgrade them now?
