Software Dev. Hiking keeps my soul intact (maybe)
If you can be bothered with it you probably want symlinks. I've never played with them on windows though so not sure of the behavior edge cases

The magic words to Google for here is symbolic link / hard links. A symlink is kind of like a shortcut in that if you delete where it points to it will stop working - a hard link will mean you have do delete it in all places to lose it

This kind of hn screenshot content is very frustrating to read on mobile - would you consider copying and pasting your hn post text as alt text in the future? Thanks!

Concur - I'd love to use my local library more - but they closed it and moved it to an awful room in the council house with... two desks? Genuinely a hostile feeling place

Perhaps the art is in the not knowing, but I always wonder how much I should read into each death. I know why you could see this as dead, but I can't see it for say, Boulders. Is this individually selected words? Is this anything out of Wikipedia? Perhaps I'll never know

What's the multicoloured one here? I couldn't see it on elephpant.me

I've never seen something positive about a sunfish! Unexpected!

My problem with his take here is really the use of "waste of time". If you frame it as "not how he wants to use his time", then this comes across less abrasive.

I have to confess I've used wikipedia for this for media that's just... ehh.

Not endorsing the AI take though, no NYT sub, so no context

Worked it out! The emoji is meant to be 0x2614 ☔ but *somehow* it's also added in the 0xfe0f "variation selector" char into the emoji ☔️. Regex notices it doesn't belong, so it tries to * the useless char instead - computers, never as simple as they should be :D

Side note, I'm sad that bluesky doesn't like my emoji based URL shortener :(

I haven't been able to replicate failing with that with either the original or second URL s.dochne.com/%F0%9F%98%81

I have found some weird behaviour where:
🌈☔️+((☁️⛅️)*☁️☔️(💦|🌪️☔️*🌈)☔️+)* fails and
🌈☔️+((☁️⛅️)*☁️☔️(💦|🌪️(☔️)*🌈)☔️+)* works though

Not sure what's going on there - maybe some unicode weirdness?

Good point! I apparently thought out the loop then forgot moving to the node to loop off!

I think this should work properly:
🌈☔️+((☁️⛅️)*☁️☔️(💦|🌪️☔️*🌈)☔️+)*
