Chemical biologist, basketball aficianado, proud homebody. I take my science, not my posts, seriously. Personal account.
Current group mood 🚀 🚀

These bits also seem like cautionary tales for our current moment, in which many parties propose how to “re-make” science.

This graph is jaw-dropping and tracks anecdotal academic experience so well.

Beautiful discussion describes how these forces are individually weak, but collectively 💪

To evoke a famous Warren Zevon quote: “Enjoy every burrito.”

Memorializing our final Friday 🌯 lunch with @fjoreilly.bsky.social who will move his group to St. Jude in October. A real one! I wish we had more time.

People often complain about the size of the ACS but one thing I love about it are the chance encounters.

Case in point: I ran into my former intramural 🏀 teammate and current Augsburg prof Mike Wentzel within 5 min of entering, before I even got a badge.

Go Creighton chemistry!!

It is such a privilege to be a spectator at the Olympics of Growing Up.

Had to make a road trip pit stop to honor Cornell’s most famous chemistry major. Hitting different this year. So it goes.

But what I'll remember most this Spring are the little things: the birthday cupcakes, the memes on Slack, the hallway laughter, the gentle check-ins when someone feels down.

A constellation of small acts, the important chemistry that occurs outside the notebook, this remarkable lab.

The group's research was recognized by @rnasociety.bsky.social with the Moderna Biomedical Award for Biomedical Innovation in RNA.

This was a real honor and is top of mind with this year's RNA Society meeting taking place right now.

I will see you all next year in Montreal!

Minervo Perez and I visited NCATS to present the group's work on covalent inhibitor discovery and got the chance to catch up with many friends, including the Matt Hall.

Alex Castroverde won an Outstanding Poster award at this year's Spring Research Festival.

Alex will attend U Chicago in the Fall, while our other stellar postbac Manini Penikalapati will head to Rice.

Go Alex & Manini!!

Intern Alayna Hu rocked the local high school science fair with Chemical Biology research.

My kids arrived fashionably late and proceeded to treat the poster session like their own private jungle gym.

Apologies to the participants. 😜

@supunigamage.bsky.social won an award at FCBIS for her presentation of the group's work on tRNA acetylation.

Supuni is the ❤️ and soul of the group - this one meant a lot!

Postbac @mckennacrawford.bsky.social visited us from UCSF!

McKenna was the force behind our HAT inhibitor characterization efforts and will join Arun Wiita's lab for her thesis work.

There's something magical about when alumni come back to visit, even more grown up and doing brilliant things.

The Meier group and other CBL members attended FCBIS at Johns Hopkins University!

We will always treasure this outstanding regional conference, not only for its incredibly tortured acronym.

Last week the group celebrated the last day for Alayna Hu, our awesome high school intern!

Alayna developed computational approaches to predict HAT-TF interactions and will attend Duke this Fall.

Sometimes it is nice to remember the good things happening. Below is a lab 🧵, Spring 2025:
