I agree. Yes, the way Dems ended the shutdown completely sucked. But this shutdown was still effective and it exposed the insane lengths the GOP will go to so they can avoid subsidizing people's healthcare! The vast majority of Americans won't just suddenly forget that when prices are still rising!
November 11, 2025 at 4:23 PM
And I haven't done a deep dive into the new NC map but that one could be a potential dummymander too
November 11, 2025 at 4:08 PM
And some of those R+7 districts that the Texas GOP drew might be on the fence if he 2025 environment holds
November 11, 2025 at 4:08 PM
If you think the Dems had *any power at all* to bring the ACA subsidies back then you simply do not understand he current situation at all
November 11, 2025 at 3:27 PM
The shutdown did not cause ACA subsidies to end. That was part of the Republicans' budget, which they passed WITHOUT A SINGLE DEMOCRATIC VOTE. And GOP was totally unwilling to restore the subsidies, even for one year.

So in what world is rising health insurance costs Democrats' fault??
November 11, 2025 at 3:26 PM
And even though this shutdown fight, which Dems were winning, ended with them making an overall bad deal, it doesn't mean the fight was all for nothing, or even that they lost the shutdown fight! GOP still did horrible things during the shutdown and people won't suddenly forget that
November 11, 2025 at 3:16 PM
I agree that it's a bad look for them to break party unity, especially for a deal that offers relatively little compared to their initial demands.

But the fact that they got *anything material at all* (like RIF reversal) out of the deal is good. That never happens during a shutdown!
November 11, 2025 at 3:13 PM
What in the Fox News drivel are you talking about???

The shutdown did not cause prices to start increasing 7 months ago. So in what world are Dems responsible for Trump's tariffs, rising unemployment, ACA subsidies ending, inflation rising again...
November 11, 2025 at 3:09 PM
At this point, Dems already succeeded in one key area: optics. They exposed the sheer depravity of the GOP and what awful lengths Republicans are willing to go to so they can rip away your healthcare.

People aren't suddenly going to start blaming Dems for their rising healthcare costs now.
November 11, 2025 at 6:40 AM
Exactly!! This shutdown fight exposed just how depraved Republicans are. It showed America the terrible lengths the GOP will go to so they can rip away your healthcare.

I still think Dems folded earlier than I'd have liked. But that doesn't mean this whole shutdown fight was for nothing!
November 11, 2025 at 6:38 AM
These 8 Dems definitely took the coward's way out, and decided that it was time to stop fighting.

But this shutdown fight did the Republicans a LOT of harm. They're the party fully in power. Which means the low-info voters pin the SNAP cuts, ACA hikes, and air travel fiasco ENTIRELY on them.
November 11, 2025 at 6:32 AM
Republicans already killed it. The premiums were going up regardless of what Democrats did thanks to the OBBBA, which passed WITHOUT A SINGLE DEM VOTE.

Don't try to frame them as being responsible for Americans losing their healthcare. The shutdown wasn't stopping premiums from skyrocketing.
November 11, 2025 at 6:30 AM
Americans got to see just how far GOP was willing to go to keep healthcare subsidies out of peoples' hands: they were willing to starve 10% of the population and practically cancel holiday air travel to make it happen!

If this continues, the D's may start to become complicit in the public eye.
November 11, 2025 at 5:57 AM
Exactly. They look terrible. Yet so many people are acting like all the negative public opinion R's faced during the shutdown is suddenly going to evaporate and that everyone is suddenly going to blame the Dems for every tragedy under the sun

Doomers gonna doom, I guess
November 11, 2025 at 5:56 AM
8 D senators decided that keeping ACA subsidies in the spotlight wasn't worth possibly having tens of millions of people starve or having planes crash because Duffy won't let air traffic controllers work.

I would've preferred they wait for the courts to force the issue, but I understand the worry.
November 11, 2025 at 5:51 AM
Dems forced Republicans to try and starve 10% of the population and practically cancel holiday travel so that they could avoid funding people's health care. The shutdown put the GOP's moral depravity front and center for everyone to see.

I'd have liked it to continue, but it wasn't for nothing.
November 11, 2025 at 5:46 AM
Yes, because only Democrats have agency 🤦
November 11, 2025 at 5:44 AM
Y'all really need to stop acting like that was something the Democrats gave up.

The Republicans got rid of the ACA subsidies and were totally unwilling to restore them. Acting like the Democrats just willingly gave that up and sacrificed Americans' health care is completely out of touch.
November 11, 2025 at 5:41 AM
We got the RIFs reversed with full back pay to October 1. That's a pretty good concession to get from the Republicans.

Anything more was totally off the table. There was no way they were going to agree to extending the ACA subsidies. And with the SNAP ransom I can see why Ds wanted this to end.
November 11, 2025 at 5:39 AM
He was historically unpopular before the shutdown and he'll be historically unpopular after the shutdown.

Prices and unemployment are still on the rise. The shutdown ending is not going to save him.
November 10, 2025 at 11:33 PM
Fingers crossed we get something out of UT as well!
November 10, 2025 at 9:37 PM
The GOP could end this shutdown any time they want by ending the filibuster and passing their own CR with 50 votes. But they won't do it.

They had no problem circumventing the rules and only requiring 50 votes to confirm a bunch of Trump appointees. Why won't they do it now?
November 10, 2025 at 9:32 PM
Democrats already extended Republicans a very favorable deal: extend ACA subsidies for *one year* and we'll vote with you to end the shutdown. Republicans refused.

This is wholly and completely the GOP's fault, and tons of people in the country see it that way.
November 10, 2025 at 9:31 PM
The only ones using the shutdown to hurt people are Republicans.

There's money for SNAP, and Trump is withholding it.

There are air traffic controllers ready and able to work, but Sean Duffy is withholding their pay and telling them to stay home.

GOP could agree to extend ACA subsidies but won't.
November 10, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Uh, do you even know what point you're arguing against? When did I ever say anything about Mike Johnson changing his mind on anything?

There's no point in continuing this conversation since you clearly can't follow it at all
