-plausible to be created by a smith
-since they are singleshot it's actually easy to just reflavor a bow if you want to keep it simple.
-just let them be rare, having one Villain using guns makes him easily unique

While i dont know where you are, i really didn't have a big problem finding a group on discord. Worst case you could try to expand your search over multiple servers. I mean it could take a week at most (it has been some time since I searched last time tho)

Changing opinions isn't something to be called pushover, since accepting that you are wrong is incredibly mature. But what do you mean with gender issues? If there is someone being sexist/homophobic that's something way different. This behavor isn't something that can be changed.

If you are motivated to learn, there are a lot of youtube videos on how to play dnd. It's actually very simple if you pic just one class to learn and ignore the others.

If he reacts badly, that's just disrespectful and shows he doesn't care about the other players.
If he tries to be better, let him stay and look at the next session.

Changing healing to damage wouldnt cause a big problem since healing is always weaker then damage. But if you are already thinking about kicking him out: ask the other players if you should talk to him, let them give you complaints that you will anonymously tell him.

Ahhh, I understand. Just don't be too worried about balance since DMs will most of the time tweak encounters anyway. Still, have fun creating the module!

How about your character mostly just wildshaped into land animals since he loved to sneak away and carefully explore the "forbidden island where no sea elf shall go?"

3: Just like Monsters, Humans also know when they will be defeated, so how about after your players killed the captain and half of the soldiers, the rest would just drop their weapon and give up. This also helps against the case where the fight turns boring since it's now just slaughtering the rest.
