Yes I was thinking of whether some of the late Cold War Latin American cases would qualify 🤔. And that looks like a fascinating book

I’m not sure some of them weren’t gleeful too, especially in the latter case. But fair point overall, there is a deliberate cruelty here that’s different than some other situations

Curious if other political scientists and experts think I’m exaggerating or would characterize it differently.

But I think it’s clear we are seeing one of the more serious rights-erosions in a high-income democracy in the modern (post-WWII) period.
