Just received news that 27 people have been arrested in Parliament Square under the Terrorism Act 2000 for holding signs saying "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action".

Why do Quakers call themselves “Friends?”

Early Quakers called themselves “Friends of the Truth,” and sometimes “Friends of the Lord” (or “God” or “Christ”). It was shortened to “Friends” even then.

The name “Religious Society of Friends” started to be used in the late 18th century.

Historian here. Witnessing so many gullible people vote for their own downfall is upsetting. It means humans, even in an age with the total sum of recorded knowledge at their fingertips, will not learn from the past and just repeat the mistakes we've made time and time before.

What does Trump's shuttering of USAID programs mean?

1) Immediate consequences for millions of the world’s most vulnerable people.

2) Deep, long-term harm to efforts to address issues like the climate crisis, global instability, and the root causes of forced migration.
