(In fact, you could argue on this basis that Labour's voters actually DID vote for "social democratic austerity" - in the sense that they voted for public spending to be prioritised over private consumption)

All of that said, getting non-voters into the political conversation by making voting compulsory would be a very positive reform IMHO
