"Don't Poke the Bear" is a terrible analogy for dealing with authoritarians, be they Putin or Trump.

An actual bear isn't aware you have this doctrine and can't endlessly move the goal posts on what constitutes a "poke" every time it's bored, angry, or just wants your honey.
