More thoughts from me about the inadequacy of local and international climate policy. People have no idea what is coming because governments have chosen to hide behind comforting words and dangerous concepts. www.linkedin.com/posts/david-...

When I read government reports, they’re often word soups that initially sound well thought out and convincing. But I look for what’s not there. And I found a lot missing in the National Adaptation Plan, as I relate in my latest for @michaelwestbiz.bsky.social: michaelwest.com.au/the-dog-ate-...

When do we reach “net zero”? Not when someone’s offset spreadsheet claims we have. Actually, it’s when atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases stabilise (stop increasing). Every day we delay take us closer to natural tipping points.

In fact, the top 3 industrial facilities in terms of local carbon pollution are all gas giants. Gorgon, Inpex’s Icthys plant, and Woodside’s NW shelf. Collectively spewing 4.9% of Australia’s domestic emissions before any of the gas is burnt.

The biggest industrial climate polluter in terms of its local emissions? That would be Chevron’s Gorgon gas behemoth. You know, the one with the multi billion $ carbon capture and storage plant. Even with it, that one facility produces 2% of Australia’s domestic emissions! Annoyed? Call your MP!

Australia’s gas and coal extraction facilities (wells, LNG processing and mines) produce 17% of our local climate pollution *before* any of the stuff is burnt in export markets (where most of it goes) or here at home.

If Mr Art of the Deal is supportive, it must be a pretty rank result for Australia. Thanks again, “that fella down under” 👎

With new fires starting and many uncontained, this won’t be the final tally. Is it time to start acting seriously on climate change? I doubt this will change the minds of many Americans outside LA.
