Check out our new preprint! We compare sequence versus synteny approaches for resolving a challenging #phylogenetic problem. In this case, synteny is far more informative! Also includes the first chromosome-level #genome for the enigmatic #fish family Gyrinocheilidae. doi.org/10.1101/2025...

In addition to the terminations of existing awards, new NSF grants are still stopped completely since DOGE was granted access to systems a week ago.

Last Thursday, an agency spokesperson said "NSF continues to issue awards." That does not appear to be the case.

USAID staff have two days to clean out their offices at the agency’s former headquarters in DC.

People are gathering on the sidewalk in the rain to show their support, applauding workers as they pass by.

“They apparently just sort of walked past security and said: ‘Get out of my way,’ and they’re looking for access for the IT systems, as they have in other agencies,” said a former Noaa official. “They will have access to the entire computer system, a lot of which is confidential information.”

I hope federally funded scientists are preparing for large scale, bad faith attacks by Musk and his troll army.

It’s pretty clear the DOGE operation is going to take snippets of grant proposals and papers, present them out of context, and direct weaponized harassment of individual people.

Elon Musk takes far more federal dollars with far less oversight than any of the public scientists facing attacks.

People who come under attack should respond by making sure anyone listening knows how much federal money Musk makes, and how he shields it from scrutiny.
